Head and Jaw Treatment, 30 minutes

Do you grind your teeth at night? Do you get headaches near your temples? (side of our head behind the eyes)? Do you have clicking or popping of the jaw?

The jaw joint (tempormandibular joint (TMJ) is the most frequently used joint in the body, moving 2000-3000 times a day.

Jaw disfunction, pain and headaches can occur because of a variety of physical and emotional reasons. One of the causes can be our sedentary lifestyle. We are all quite familiar with sitting for long periods of time and how our head and shoulders can have a tendency to drift up and forward causing tension in the neck and shoulders, but ALSO this can cause jaw disfunction, pain and headaches.

Just to explain, when the head drifts forward there is no support from the cervical muscles (at the back of the neck) and so muscles at the front of the neck under the jaw (the hyoid group of muscle and sternocleidomastoids) contract and shorten and clenching of the jaw can occur. The jaw can become misaligned, perhaps pulling on just one side of the jaw, and this can lead to pain when moving the jaw but also can cause headaches, as the muscles of the jaw connect and hence pull on different structures of our skull!

As part of studying for my Advanced Myofascial Release Diploma I have completed a section on the structures of the skull and it’s associated muscles and how disorders can occur around the jaw, head and neck and how this can have an influence on structures throughout the body.

A 30 minute treatment includes gentle, sustained pressure to help unlock jaw and fascial muscle and fascia tension.
The cost is £30.
